The Blue Zones

In search of the world’s oldest healthiest people.

One of the best-selling National Geographic Magazines of all time was the cover story I shot on The Secrets of Longevity written by Dan Buettner. Our mission for this story was simple: we wanted to understand how the world’s oldest healthiest people got that way. Then, share the wisdom and science behind these cultures of longevity so that we may all live longer, healthier, happier lives. Visually, my goal was crystal clear: to make old people look heroic and aspirational.

Dan popularized this work into The Blue Zones. Our collaboration continues to this day with the recent publication of #1 The New York Times best-selling cookbook: Blue Zones Kitchen. In the spirit of longevity, it was the 15th story we collaborated on together. Here’s a look at the body of work that has brought the Blue Zones to life visually.
